Alba D. (Quaglia) "Mimi" Sobiski of Manchester, the wife of the late Sigfred B. "Zip" Sobiski, passed away on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital. She was 87.

Mimi was born Jan. 23, 1925, to the late Domenico and Palmina (Lovisolo) Quaglia. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1943 and was a lifelong Manchester resident. During World War II, she worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. She was a communicant of St. Bridget Church, a Cub Scout den mother, and a voluntary librarian at Bentley School. Mimi enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, and sports. She was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Huskies basketball teams. She was a beloved friend to everyone she met and was known for her generosity, kind-heartedness, and sense of humor.
Mimi is survived by her three children, Diane Sertl of Vineyard Haven, Mass., Patricia Burgess and her husband, Robert, of Manchester, and John Sobiski of Lancaster, Calif. She also leaves her three granddaughters, Kerry Cummings and her husband, Sean, of Vineyard Haven, Mass., Amy Sertl of Vineyard Haven, Mass., and Nicole Burgess of Manchester; her great granddaughter Sophia Cummings of Vineyard Haven, Mass.; her sister, Domenica "Sunny" Fike of Manchester; her brother John Quaglia, Sr. of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Theresa Serra; her brother Carlo Quaglia; son-in-law Mark Sertl; and her granddaughter, Melissa Sertl.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and care staff at St. Francis Hospital, Intensive Care Unit, who treated our Mom with respect and tenderness and provided extraordinary care.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at 9:45 a.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
