Alice McFetridge Nolin, 95, of Broad Brook, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Rockville General Hospital with family by her side.

Born Sept. 24, 1918, in East Hartford, she was the daughter of the late John and Effie (Slater) Sauer. Alice grew up in East Hartford and spent the majority of her later years in Broad Brook. She enjoyed traveling and seeing America, and when she was home, she loved spending time in her garden. Alice was involved in various arts and crafts and she took great joy in sharing her family history with others through photographs. She was also a collector, especially of dolls and glass slippers. An animal lover, Alice received great joy from time spent with her dogs.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, aunt, and friend, Alice will be greatly missed by her children, Gerald Dwyer, and his wife, Carol, of Stafford Springs, Richard Dwyer, and his wife, Constance, of Indian Land, S.C., Lynn Wright, and her husband, Tom, of Windsor Locks, Joan Crowley, and her husband, Jim, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Joseph McFetridge, and his wife, Karen, of Broad Brook; her two stepsons, William Nolin, and his wife, Josephine, of Broad Brook and Robert Nolin, and his wife, Ginger, of Stafford; her 15 grandchildren; her 19 great-grandchildren; her special friends, Carlos and Edna; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and other friends. Besides her parents, Alice is preceded in death by three husbands, William Dwyer, Robert McFetridge, and Leo Nolin; three brothers, William Sauer, Robert Sauer, and Owen Sauer; and her sister, Effie Finkle.
Relatives and friends are invited to Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, on Saturday, Feb. 1, for a memorial gathering from 9 to 11 a.m. Inurnment will follow in Scantic Cemetery in East Windsor, where Alice will be laid to rest with her favorite dog, Brittany.
Memorial donations may be made in Alice's name to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
