Alonzo W. Montague Jr., 40, of Manchester, the husband of Dr. Kathy (Cumberbatch) Montague died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Hartford Hospital.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of Carmen Z. Lopez of New Jersey and the late Alonzo W. Montague Sr. He was a 1991 graduate of Brooklyn Tech, Brooklyn, N.Y., and had studied at the University of Connecticut. Alonzo had formerly worked for Coca Cola Co. and had owned his own business, Montague Property Management. Football was a constant passion in his life, having played as an offensive lineman in high school and at the University of Connecticut, where he lettered in 1992 and 1993. After college he continued with his love of the game, passing on his knowledge through coaching, most recently with the Pop Warner League's Manchester Sentinals and at Manchester High School as the junior varsity coach. While at UConn, he became a member of the Nu Psi Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He was also a Little League baseball coach, a volunteer at the Manchester Fire Department 8th Utilities District, and had recently received his emergency medical technician certificate.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Khari and Nina of Manchester; his grandmother, who raised him, Rafaela Lopez of Puerto Rico; his aunt, Deborah Lopez of Puerto Rico; and his uncle, Juan Lopez of New Jersey. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janice and Dennis Cumberbatch of Manchester; his sister-in-law, Kristen Cumberbatch of New Bedford, Mass.; his brother-in-law, Kevin Cumberbatch of Worcester, Mass.; his best friend, Henry Thompson of Secaucus, N.J.; his canine companion, Doughboy, and numerous cousins and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center St., Manchester.
