Alva Rossi, 85, beloved husband of Margaret (Kelleher) Rossi of South Windsor, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Manchester Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born in Torrington on Aug. 16, 1927, son of the late Joseph and Frina (Calciolari) Rossi, he had lived in South Windsor for the past 55 years. He founded AMK Welding Inc. of South Windsor and retired in 1998. Alva was a member of Masonic Lodge 73 A.F&A.M. of Manchester, the Area Sportsmen Clubs and the Rotary Club of South Windsor. He was a member of the U.S. Navy, veteran of World War II, and was a captain of the Governor's Foot Guard. Alva had relatives and friends in Canada, Italy, and in the States whose company he enjoyed with fond memories. Alva had a great passion for life, laughter, friends, and family, especially when enjoyed over his fire-grilled steak and a glass of Chianti.

In addition to his devoted wife of 59 years, Margaret, he leaves three daughters, Karen L. Rossi, and her husband, Gregory Pasbore, of Meriden, Beth K. Rossi of Tecumseh, Neb., and Linda J. Rossi of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Monique Rossi-Seitz of Missoula, Mont.; a brother, Ernest V. Rossi of Eastham, Mass.; and a niece, Pamela Rossi of Los Angeles, Calif.

A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Torrington on Tuesday at 1 p.m. His family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.
