Bernard Meyer Lloyd, 81, of East Granby, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Meadowbrook in Granby.

Only child of the late George Douglas Lloyd and Mary Rose (Chesmel) Lloyd, Bernie was born in Hartford on Dec. 19, 1931, and a graduate of the Choate Rosemary Hall School in Wallingford. He was a faithful member of the East Granby Congregational Church for many years serving as a deacon as well as advisor to the youth through the Pilgrim Fellowship program. After medical issues prevented Bernie from working, he retired from Bidwell Hardware in the mid-90s. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict as an operating room technician in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1955.
Bernie leaves a host of cousins and dear friends as well as his church family at the East Granby Congregational Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by aunts and uncles in both the Lloyd and Chesmel families.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Elmwood Cemetery in East Granby.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to EGCC memorial fund in Bernie's name.
