Charles H. "Charlie" Norris Jr., 80, of Manchester, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at a local convalescent home.

Mr. Norris was born in Manchester on May 20, 1932, to Charles H. and Eleanor E. (Westgate) Norris, and was a lifelong Manchester resident. He graduated from Manchester High School, served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army medical corps, and prior to retiring had been a driving instructor for over 25 years for the American Driving School. Mr. Norris' passion was music. He was an accomplished trombonist, playing in various big band and jazz bands in the Hartford area, including the Dixieland Four Plus One, and the Coon Sanders Nighthawks jazz band.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Craft of Castro Valley, Calif.; two nieces and a nephew, and his close friends and neighbors. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Norris.
A private burial will be in the family lot in Greenlawn Cemetery in Salem, Mass.
