David Hayden, 46, of Santa Cruz, Calif., formerly of Ellington (Ellington High School, 1986), died suddenly Jan. 30, 2014.

David was an animal rights activist known for his gentle spirit.
He is survived by his father, Gerry Hayden of Keene, N.H.; his mother, Mary Lu Scarlato of Ellington; and his siblings, Terry Hayden and Stephen, Daisy, Jesse, and Ben Scarlato; as well as by Hayden and Lawn grandparents, aunts and uncles, a nephew, a niece, and many friends and colleagues who miss him keenly.
A gathering to remember David will be held in the social room of the Ellington Congregational Church on Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. Attire will be casual.
The family requests that those in attendance try to avoid using scented soaps, detergents, perfumes, etc., as several family members have sensitivities.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David's honor may be made to Food Empowerment Project, Hen Harbor, New Life Animal Sanctuary, or the animal rights organization of your choice.
