Eda E. Basile, 87, wife of the late Joseph J. Basile (2007), died peacefully at home surrounded by her children Friday, April 4, 2014, after a courageous 16-year battle with breast cancer.

Eda was born in West Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Luigi and Marzia (Galante) D'Agostino. Upon her marriage to Joe on Oct. 15, 1949, she resided in Enfield for the rest of her life. She was a devout Catholic and member of St. Patrick Church in Thompsonville. Eda was known as the consummate homemaker, wife, and mother. She and Joe enjoyed attending dinner dances at the Shaker Farms Country Club in Westfield, Mass., and the Dante Club in West Springfield, Mass. After his retirement, they enjoyed travelling the United States and Europe, cruising, as well as winter vacationing in Florida, collecting mugs wherever they went. In her spare time, Eda enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, solving word puzzles, collecting Disney Snow White memorabilia, and, in her later years, playing games on a laptop and iPad.

Eda is survived by her son, Thomas J. Basile of Enfield, and daughter, Maryann G. Basile, and her boyfriend, Richard Nowak, of Wethersfield. Eda also leaves her brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Barbara D'Agostino of West Springfield, Mass., and her sister-in-law Barbara D'Agostino of Agawam, Mass.
