Sgt. Edward C. Hart Jr., 82, retired Hartford police officer, of Enfield, loving husband of Shirley (Dobruck) Hart, passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013.

Ed was born Oct. 26, 1930, in Hartford, the loving son of the late Edward Sr. and Marcella (Jordan) Hart. Ed proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Ed retired in 1981 from the Hartford Police Department after 25 years as a sergeant and then directed security at the Hartford Jai Alai for 15 years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and member of the Police Benevolent Association.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, of 58 years, he is also survived by his five children, Edward Hart and wife, Diane, Charles Hart and wife, Kathleen, Kevin Hart and wife, Mary, Robert Hart and fiancée, Kristin, and Cheryl Hart; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Hart and wife, Valerie, of Rice, Va. Ed was predeceased by a brother, Robert W. Hart, and a sister, Beverly Alterisio.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. A funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at 9 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Enfield. Ed will be buried in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery in Enfield with military honors.
