Elizabeth A. Sayles, 92, of Vernon and Berlin, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Born Sept. 24, 1920, in West Orange, N.J., she was a daughter to the late Walter and Elsie (Koehler) Perry. She was a 1941 nursing graduate of the East Orange General Hospital. She worked as a registered nurse until her husband, Cmdr. Charles E. Sayles, returned from the war, at which time they started their family. Her registered nursing career continued over her lifetime being employed at various hospitals throughout the New England area. Elizabeth was a member of the Women's Fellowship for several area churches, the New Britain Art League, and a member of a variety of bridge clubs. She was an avid reader and loved gardening, but her greatest joy was spending time with family.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Ann Sullivan, and her husband, Robert, and Susann Beirn, and her husband, Arthur; grandchildren, Artea, and her fiancé, James, Daniel, and his wife, Meghan, Matthew, Jennifer, and her husband, Mike, and Tara, and her husband, Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Artea, Penelope, Dannah, and Delaney. She also leaves her dearest friend and fellow nursing graduate of East Orange General Hospital, Doris Collins; as well as her wonderful neighbors, Sal, Ellie, and Marion. In addition to her parents, sisters, and husband, she was predeceased by her loving companion of 14 years, Dr. Richard Bohnson, whose family have been lifelong friends.
A memorial service for Elizabeth will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
