Ellen Blake Hardy, of Vernon, passed away at the age of 78 on Nov. 1, 2018, after several years of declining health. She was born Ruth Eileen Scanlon on May 10, 1940, in Hartford.

She was the adopted daughter of Althea and Michael Blake and grew up in Rocky Hill, graduated from Wethersfield High in 1959, and went to work in the insurance field. In 1963, she married her former husband, the late Milton Hardy Sr., and together they had four children. Later in life, Ellen's love of animals drew her to start her own pet-sitting business where she made numerous lifelong friendships that she treasured over the years.

Ellen leaves behind her loving sister, Mary McMahon of Crossville, Tennessee; and her children, Milton Hardy Jr. of Ellington, Steven Hardy-Braz and his wife, Liza, of Farmville, North Carolina, Douglas Hardy and his wife, Holly, of Spring, Texas; and her daughter, Susan Amaral, and her husband, Dave, of Bedford, Massachusetts. She also leaves her much beloved grandchildren, Rachel, Michael, Lara, Edward, Heather, Harrison, and Hannah.

At Ellen's request, a private burial service will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill.
