Essie G. Strimaitis, 90, of Manchester, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Essie was born Jan. 2, 1923, in Manchester, daughter of the late Gilbert and Elizabeth (Cordner) Graham. A lifelong resident, she graduated from Manchester High School in the Class of 1941A. Essie raised her family with her loving husband of 66 years, George J. Strimaitis, and later worked for SNET (AT&T) for 18 years before retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 53, and Order of Amaranth. Essie was an avid world traveler, having visited over 30 countries with George. She enjoyed the Senior Citizen Duckpin Bowling League for many years, and was an enthusiastic member of Manchester Square Dance Club for more than 20 years, serving as board member. She and George loved the intricate Plus-Level dancing and the warm friendship of dancers throughout Connecticut, but her greatest joy was her family.
In addition to her husband, Essie is survived by her two sons, Edward G. Strimaitis of Manchester and David Strimaitis, and his wife, Janet, of Norfolk, Mass.; her daughter, Marcia Papastrat, and her husband, Peter, of Endwell, N.Y.; her two loving granddaughters, Sarah Bilello, and her husband, Christopher, of Hamilton, Mass., and Anna Strimaitis of Tallahassee, Fla.; and her sister, Elizabeth London of Manchester. In addition to her parents, Essie was predeceased by her brother, George Graham.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m. with the funeral service to begin at 5 p.m. Burial will be private in East Cemetery, Manchester.
