George Lyons Hodges, 75, loving husband and best friend of Sandra (Branigan) Hodges, formerly of South Windsor, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at home in Hyannis, Mass.

Born June 5, 1937, in Hartford, he had lived in South Windsor for over 40 years and was a resident of Hyannis and Rotonda West, Fla. He graduated from Buckeley High in 1955 and received a Bachelor of Science in Math and Physics in 1960 and a Master's degree in 1964 from the University of Connecticut. He worked for United Technology for 40 years at the Research Lab in East Hartford and Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks. He loved golf and was a member of Ellington Ridge Country Club for 20 years before retiring in 1998 and moving to Cape Cod and Florida, where he was a member of Rotonda Golf and Country Club. He and his wife spent many enjoyable years playing golf together with friends in Connecticut and Florida. He also was a big fan of UConn's men's and women's basketball teams, New York Giants football, and the Red Sox. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Rev. E.G. Rosenbergers Council 5779 in South Windsor, and was also a 4th degree knight.

Besides his wife of over 52 years, he leaves a daughter, Kimberley, of Hyannis, Mass., and two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Rosalia, of Tampa, Fla., and Kevin and his wife, Pennie, of Stafford Springs. He leaves five grandchildren, Arturo, Paul Gaudet, Derik, Heather, and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Ellen, and two brothers, John and James. He also was predeceased by a son, Scott.

Family and friends may gather Monday at 9:15 a.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor.

His family will receive friends on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, because of a disease of one of his grandsons, donations may be made in his name to Von Hippel Lindau Family Alliance, 2001 Beacon St., Suite 208, Boston, MA 02135.
