Gilbert James Chartier, 84, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of South Windsor, beloved husband of the late Ann (Pizzo) Chartier, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

He was born May 5, 1928, in Hartford, son of the late Alfred and Helen (Rhines) Chartier. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Stanadyne Automotive and was a member of the South Windsor Ambulance Corp.
He is survived by his daughters, Cecelia Segreto of Lakeland, Fla., and her children, Ticia Bixler, and her husband, Brian, of Lakeland, Fla., Tom Segreto, and his wife, Kristin, of Plant City, Fla., and Cheryl Ann Segreto of Colorado and Rosemary Haggerty, and her husband, Robert, and their children, Christopher and Joseph Haggerty, all of Tolland; as well as four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his siblings, Philip Chartier of Hartford, Robert Chartier of San Diego, Calif., Rita Flebeau of Broad Brook, William Chartier of Plainville, Henry Chartier of Broad Brook, and John Chartier of Enfield. He was predeceased by his daughter, Gail, and his son, Thomas, and his brother, Richard Chartier.
Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road (Route 195), Tolland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, at St. Matthew Church, Tolland, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
