Harvey Goddard Obituary

Harvey B. Goddard Jr. passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013.

He was born on Jan. 15, 1926, in Hartford, the son of Dr. Harvey B. Goddard and Marguerite Andrew Goddard. He attended elementary and high school in East Hartford, where he graduated in 1943. He then joined the Navy, where he participated in the Battle of Okinawa at the close of World War II in 1945. He served as pharmacist mate on board the Clarendon, a fast attack ship in the Pacific. In 1947, he was discharged and went on to Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, from which he graduated in 1951. He was recalled to service in the Navy during the Korean War. Finally, he began his career of teaching in California. He taught history and economics from 1956 to 1985. He obtained a master's degree in American history from the University of California at Berkeley in 1961. Harvey moved to the Oaks Retirement Village in Pasadena, Calif., and lived there for 15 years. He then moved to Florida to be with his sister, Elizabeth, in August of 2012. He died a year later from complications of Parkinson's disease.

He leaves behind his two sisters, Elizabeth Goddard Calabrese in Florida and Marian Goddard Mullet in New York; and one brother, Stephen Goddard in Connecticut.
