Henriette (Jalbert) Karasewski, 93, a resident of Enfield for the past 25 years, formerly of Fall River, Mass., for most of her life, died early Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, 2013, at the Suffield House.

She was born and educated in Fall River, a daughter of the late Alfred and Marie (Vaillancourt) Jalbert. Henriette and her late husband, Joseph Karasewski who died in December of 1981, were the former longtime owners of McFarland's Bakery, which was a well known bakery located at 236 New Boston Road, Fall River, for over 26 years until its closing in the late 1970s. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and an active member of the Women's Guild and the Widow & Widower's Club. Henriette also was a lifelong avid fan of the Boston Red Sox who won the 2007 World Series final game on Oct. 29, making the celebration of her 88th birthday extra special. She also was an avid bingo player who enjoyed getting together with her family and friends on a weekly basis, and most recently she enjoyed volunteering at Mark Twain Congregate Housing.
She leaves two loving children, Jan Karasewski of Lexington, N.C., and Frances Dias with whom she made her home in Enfield; five grandchildren, Lisa Plumb of Illinois, Joseph Karasewski, Jay Karasewski of Maryland, Jack Dias of Ellington, and his friend, Ellen Cyr, and Judith Moreno-Gauthier, and her husband, Robert of Suffield; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves two dear friends, her caretaker for many years, Joan Choinski, and a dear friend, Sharon Murphy. Henriette was predeceased by her nine brothers, Alfred, Albert, Arthur, Edward, Joseph, John, Rene, Roderick, and William.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, at 9 a.m. from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, both in Enfield. Burial will follow in the Karasewski family lot at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Relatives and friends may call at the Leete-Stevens Funeral Home on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.
