Irene Cecilia (Rivers) Amato went home to be with her Father on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Burlington, Vt., on Jan. 5, 1921, Irene lived most of her childhood at Mt. St. Vincent Home for Girls in Holyoke, Mass. She loved her childhood in the convent with the nuns and often told her favorite story of her intention to become a nun until a priest told her she lacked humility and would not succeed. Irene attended Cathedral High in Springfield, graduating in 1940. She worked for Pratt & Whitney for many years where she was a timekeeper and also where she met her husband, Tony. Irene and Tony enjoyed many activities together. They loved dancing at the Luna Club in Hartford and at the Army/Navy Club in Manchester. Besides dancing, two other passions Irene and Tony shared were traveling and golf. Even into her 80s, Irene golfed regularly with several friends at Manchester Country Club.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Anthony C. Amato, in 2002; and her beloved son, David Langlois, in 1989. She is survived by her stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and many friends.
A special thank you is given to her caregiver, Yanina, whose good care allowed Irene to remain in the home she loved.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday Oct. 2, 2012.
John F. Tierney Funeral Home of Manchester had care of arrangements.
