Jerry Mahrt Obituary

Jerry D. Mahrt, 69, of Tolland, beloved husband of the late Sylvia (French) Mahrt, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Hartford Hospital, after a brief illness.

Son of the late George H. Mahrt and Bernice (Ramsden) Mahrt, Jerry was born in Omaha, Neb., on Dec. 3, 1942. After finishing high school in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy for a short period during peacetime and later moved to California for greater employment opportunities. Jerry relocated to Connecticut in the late '70s working in the auto parts industry in East Windsor, Coventry, Manchester, East Hartford, and finally at Bolles Motors in Ellington where he retired as a parts manager in 2008 after 15 years of service. In his leisure time, he enjoyed painting, sketching, and spending time with his family.

Jerry is loved and mourned by his daughter, Victoria A. Oravits, and two cherished grandsons, Samuel and John, all of Ellington; three brothers, George Mahrt Jr. of Canada, Ronald Mahrt of Omaha, Neb., and Dale Mahrt of California; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He also leaves his special canine companion, Joey; as well as many friends and neighbors at Winding River Village in Tolland.
