Joanne Andrade Segar, 70, of Osprey, Fla., passed away on June 26, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Manchester, daughter of the late Manuel and Lora (Flanigan) Andrade. Joanne worked hard all her life, inspiring her children to be passionate and driven with her strength of character and determination to succeed. After retiring from a career in banking in Hartford, she chose to relocate to the constant sunshine in Florida, where she enjoyed working part-time for Nielsen Media Research. When she wasn't working, she enjoyed dining out, going to the movies with friends, traveling, cruising, and watching the dolphins in the Intracoastal Waterway.
Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Mac Segar; seven children in Connecticut, JR Segar, Brandy Gadoury and her husband, Bob, Jerry Segar and his wife, Caroline, Craig Segar and his wife, Terry, Laurel Butler and her husband, Shawn, Chip Segar and his wife, Dawn, Scott Segar and his wife, Elise; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Lora Shepherd and her husband, Bill of Winchester, Va.; a very dear friend, Elaine Wood of Venice, Fla.; and her beloved pets, Amme and Sparkey. Joanne has now peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge with Stacey, Jake, and Major.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Sarasota County 2331 15th St., Sarasota, FL 34237; or Vernon Animal Control c/o Town Hall, 14 Park Place, Vernon, CT 06066 as Joanne was known for her great love of animals.
In accordance with Joanne's wishes, services will be private.
