Joanne M. DeMaio, 63, of East Hartford, peacefully entered into eternal rest with her caring family by her side on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Hartford on Dec. 4, 1949, a loving daughter of the late Raymond J. and Lorraine (Riccardo) DeMaio, she had been a lifelong resident of East Hartford. Joanne was a graduate of East Catholic High School, Class of 1968, and was a longtime faithful communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford, where she was also a member of their Prayer Shawl Ministry. Prior to her retirement, Joanne was employed for 31 years by Aetna Insurance Co. in Hartford. Joanne was an avid sports fan, (especially of the UConn Huskies and Hartford Whalers) and was a member of the "91 Club" for season ticket holders with the Whalers. Joanne was a talented crafts artist who liked crocheting, knitting, and other crafts. She was also a very good cook who liked cooking for her brothers and family members. Most of all Joanne will be remembered as an extremely loving person who was happiest when able to provide friends and family with the results of her creative talents. She truly lived a charitable life thinking of others first.

Joanne is survived by her two brothers, Raymond J. DeMaio, and his wife, Louise, of South Windsor, and Robert DeMaio of Oxford, Mass.; two beloved nephews, Thomas and Andrew DeMaio, both of South Windsor; two special aunts, Elizabeth "Betty" DeMaio of Hartford, and Angeline "Angie" Willis of East Hartford; many cousins, former co-workers, and dear friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 25, at 11 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at noon at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer St., East Hartford.
