John E. Burns, 75, formerly of Enfield, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Holyoke Soldier's Home.

He was born July 28, 1937, to Harold and Inez Burns. He lived in Enfield most of his life where his family operated the former Burns Market. He later owned an Esso service station in town for many years and was a member of Teamsters Local 671. He was a truck driver for Preston Inc. when he retired. He was enlisted in the Army and served his country in the Korean war. He was a member of the German Club, Moose Lodge, and Knights of Columbus where he enjoyed cards and games nights. He was a frequent visitor to Aruba with his late wife Jeanne. A resident of the Holyoke Soldier's Home, he was a popular member of the community and will be missed by his fellow veterans.

He leaves a son, John Burns, and daughter, Brenda Burns both of Enfield; stepsons, Roger Chabot of Becket, Mass., Andre Chabot of Southwick, Mass.; brother, Robert Burns of Enfield; and grandchildren, Danielle, Samantha, Diane, and Michael; and great-granddaughter, Olivia; and nephews.

The procession will form at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield. Military honors will follow the Mass at church.

John's family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the procession at the funeral home from 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations in John's memory may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home Recreation Department, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
