John "Jack" R. Kettledon, 76, was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. "Papa" died peacefully at his home on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012. He was the husband of 51 years of Noreen (Landry) Kettledon.

Born in Hartford, the son of the late Frank and Alice (Welch) Kettledon, he had lived in Manchester since 1965. Jack was formerly employed by the Manchester Board of Education where he worked at Illing Jr. High School for 25 years. His great enjoyments were time spent with his family and being able to take vacations. He also was a strong advocate for the Disabled American Veterans.

Besides his wife, Noreen, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jennifer Kettledon of Westbrook; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Anthony Gentile of Hebron; his granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley; his siblings, Frances Rowland of Middletown and Bill Kettledon of Wisconsin, and Bob Kettledon, and his wife, Violet, of California; his sister-in-law, Patricia Porte; his sister and brother-in-law, Faithe and Steve Petty; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joan Kettledon, and his brothers, Tommy and Frank Kettledon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main St., Manchester, followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to either the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301, or PAWS-CT, P.O. Box 191, Eastford, CT 06242, which is a cat rescue facility.
