John "Ioannis" Zannis Gazis, 84, of Enfield, loving husband of Mersini (Aposporis) Gazis, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at home with his family by his side.

John was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Andros, Greece, the son of the late Zannis and Argiro (Annisi) Gazis. He proudly served in the Greek Merchant Marines and immigrated to the United States in August of 1976. John was the owner and operator of several restaurants in the area especially Pete's Pizza on Elm Street and Gazis Restaurant on Hazard Ave. He was an avid gardener and member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Enfield.
In addition to his wife, Mersini, to whom he was married 60 years, he is also survived by three children, Roula Davila, and her husband, Jose, of Enfield, Zannis Gazis, and his wife, Aliona, and Fotis Gazis, and his wife, Shelly, all of Somers; eight grandchildren, Mersini, and her husband, Peter Keller, Vickie Monahan, and Rick, and his wife, Shelley Fausel, Yiannis, Alex, Katerina, Jack, and Nikos Gazis; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Henry, Olivia, Christian, Celeste, Haley, and Liam; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.
A funeral procession will gather Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home for a funeral service to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Luke, 400 Prospect St., East Longmeadow, Mass. Burial will follow the service in Somers Center Cemetery, Somers.
