Joseph H. Bezzini, 86, of East Hartford, loving husband of 64 years to Beverly J. (Spurio) Bezzini, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 19, 2013, at his home with his caring family by his side.

Born in Hartford on Sept. 20, 1926, a son of the late John and Antoinette (Plate) Bezzini, he had been a lifelong resident of East Hartford. Joe was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Prior to his retirement, Joe was a partner with his brothers at Bezzini Brothers Old Colony Furniture located on Hilliard Street, Manchester, where he specialized in upholstering. A talented ball player, Joe was the center fielder for many years for the East Hartford Dovalettes Softball team in the Connecticut State Fast Pitch Softball League. He loved working in his vegetable garden, cooking (especially his famous eggplant parmesan), and preparing food for the holiday gatherings. Joe was a loyal fan of the New York Yankees, UConn Women's and Men's basketball teams, as well as being a member of the East Hartford Southend Senior Center and a daily mall walker at Buckland Hills Mall, Manchester. Proud of his Italian heritage, Joe was a "true" family man. He was a devoted husband, father, and most of all a proud grandfather who was very involved with his seven grandchildren, from supporting them at various school activities to cheering them on in the bleachers at sporting events.

Along with his beloved wife, Beverly, Joe is survived by a son, Michael Bezzini and his wife, Denise, of East Hartford; two daughters, Joyce Mazzadra and her husband, Aldo, of Tolland, and Nancy Guzy and her husband, Skip, of Tolland; seven adored grandchildren, Scott Bezzini of Watertown, Mass., Jason Bezzini and his fiancé, Crystal Williams, of East Hartford, Kristin Bezzini of East Hartford, Matthew Mazzadra of Vernon, Tyler Mazzadra of Tolland, Alexandra Guzy of Tolland, and Kyle Guzy of Tolland. He also leaves two sisters, Louise Bezzini of East Hartford and Alice Mischler in Rhode Island; several nieces, nephews, former customers, and dear friends. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by five brothers, Peter, Richard, Morris, John, and Charles Bezzini; and three sisters, Janet Lyford, Esther Bezzini, and Rose Pecor.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 23, at 9:30 a.m. from the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, May Road/Brandon Road, East Hartford.
