Joyce Ted (Balunas) Chase, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, of Enfield, passed away peacefully with her family at her side after a brief illness on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

Joyce was born in Waterbury on Feb. 6, 1938, the daughter of the late Theodore Emil and Lillian (Schneider) Balunas, and stepdaughter of Hazel Rutishauser Balunas. Joyce graduated from Wilby High School in Waterbury, and also attended Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield. She excelled in secretarial skills and went on to jobs she took pride in at both Enrico Fermi and Enfield High schools, and was also employed at Terry Steam Turbine Co. in Windsor. Over the last eight years, she had been employed by Caring Solutions in Enfield. She was the office manager, and this job was one of the most passionate positions that she held and enjoyed throughout her career. Joyce had many enjoyable hobbies. She loved her knitting, needlework, reading, and seeing live shows at Mohegan Sun, along with playing slot machines. She especially enjoyed her Tuesday lunches with the ladies. She spent many cherished moments with her family and grandchildren on her summer vacations at Cape Cod. Joyce will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Donald P. Chase; her daughter, Karen Joy Karas, and her husband, Edward, of South Windsor; her son, Kurt Chase, and his wife, Louise, of Petaluma, Calif., her son, Kenneth Chase, and his wife, Beth, of Somers; her sister, Joan and husband, Arnold Kurth, of Atlanta, Ga., her sister, Selene Balunas Rudaitis of Orlando, Fla.; and her grandchildren, Crystal, Justin, Zachary, Christopher, and Kevin Chase, Dawn, and Christopher Jackle, and John Karas; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

The family would like to thank the intensive care unit staff at St. Francis Hospital for their compassionate care.

Visitation hours will be on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.

A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
