Judith L. (Slavick) Shaffer, 69, of Tolland, beloved wife of Harold "Skip" Shaffer, passed away Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a yearlong battle with liver cancer.

She was born July 7, 1944, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of Mary (Butler) Slavick and the late Emil Slavick. She was a former nurse at the Vernon Family Practice and since 1981 was best known as the owner of The Homestead Gift and Antique Shop on Tolland Green. She enjoyed spending her spare time at the family cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, as well as cooking and gardening at home and at the cottage.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by her sons, Harold "Skip" Shaffer and his wife, Eleanor, of Simsbury, Gregg Shaffer and his long-time partner, Rosemary Nolan, of Avon, and Jay Shaffer of San Francisco, Calif.; her sister Janet Oakley of Johnstown, Pa.; her brother, Emil Slavick of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; her grandsons, Kenneth and Daniel Shaffer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marian, Linda, and Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at the United Congregational Church of Tolland, 45 Tolland Green, Tolland, CT 06084. Burial will follow at South Cemetery in Tolland.
