Julia Ola (Shemerluk) Badowski of Broad Brook, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, just shy of her 97th birthday, with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

Born April 27, 1917, in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Karol and Mary (Rolla) Shemerluk of Potok Zloty, Poland. She had lived in New York City for 30 years and moved to Poland with her husband, Leon Badowski, and in 1981 left Poland to settle in Broad Brook. Julia was a member and past president of the Park Hill Association. She enjoyed music, dancing, antiquing, and tag sales and was a master cook. Her Sunday dinners were an event for all of her family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Julia will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind, including her daughter, Marie Motta, and her partner, Henry Mas; her son, Richard Badowski, and his wife, Eva; four grandchildren, Kasia and Kiara Badowski, Danuta Botticello, and her husband, Stephen, Rodney Motta, and his partner, Christine; and a great-granddaughter, Kiona Motta; and many nieces. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Michael Motta; three brothers, Joseph, William, and Michael Shemerluk; and sister, Helen Nowosielski.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Catherine Cemetery, Rye Street, Broad Brook.
Her family will receive friends Tuesday, April 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.
