Margaret "Peggy" Johnson, 90, beloved wife of the late Verner Johnson, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 4, 1922, in East Hartford to the late Robert and Barbara (McMahon) Russell. After graduating East Hartford High School, Peggy met her husband while working at Pratt & Whitney and together they raised their children in East Hartford. She was employed by R.C. Knox Insurance Co. before her retirement. Peggy was a loving wife and mother who cherished time spent with her family, especially her great-grandson, Jax. She was an active member of the Emblem Club and the New Covenant United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to bingo and knitting beautiful baby sweaters and other gifts. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Peggy is survived by her son, Mark and Laura; her daughter, Sheila Kush of Nebraska; her grandchildren, Jason, Tammy, Todd, Heather, and Patrick; and her many great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and her dear friends the Campbell family. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Robert, Gordon, Ella, Kenneth, and Jack.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends and family are welcome to gather at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
