Mary E. Bass, 94, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014, in Vernon.

Mary was born in Hartford, Ohio, the daughter of the late Thomas and Delia Bass. After graduating from business college, she went to work at NL Industries in New York City, where she worked as a secretary for many years.
She is survived by her two nieces, Mary Lou Reardon of Irondequoit, N.Y., and Janet Smith of Vernon.
She was very active in the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, and served on the board of deacons there. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and was also very active in the Billy Graham Crusades in New York City. She was a monologist, and also acted in and directed plays. When she retired in 1989, she moved to Flax Hill in South Windsor, where she lived until 2011, and then was very well taken care of by the staff of Norah's Place in Rockville.
There will be a private service for the family on Friday, April 11, in Hudson, New York.
