Mary J. Chlebowski, 86, of West Hartford, wife of Donald R. Chlebowski, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Hartford Hospital.

The daughter of the late Frank and Regina (Walkowski) Begier, Mary was born and raised in Buffalo, N.Y., and worked as a secretary at Westinghouse. She and Don married in 1957 and two years later moved to the Hartford area, eventually settling in West Hartford in 1962. She was a communicant at Saint Mark the Evangelist and was active in the Saint Mark Small Christian Community Group and the Legion of Mary. She volunteered at the Charter Oak School Library when her son was in school. Later, Mary worked various jobs as a seamstress and in the 1980s worked as a customer service representative for Interior Window Designs. She loved to bake, cook, and sew and enjoyed crafts and collecting teddy bears.
Besides Don, her husband of 55 years; she leaves her son, Brian M. Chlebowski, his wife, Dee, and their children, Joshua and Christian of Somers; her uncle, Edward Walkowski of East Amherst, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews in upstate New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at the Church of Saint Mark the Evangelist, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford.
