Michael Paul Vamvilis, 50, passed away on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at his home.

Born in Hartford, a son of Patricia (Cole) Vamvilis and the late Peter Vamvilis, he had been a resident of the Somers community for most of his life and was associated with his family in the restaurant business. He was a member of St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow. Mike was a graduate of Somers High School and was a member of the high school Food Service Program, participating in the operation of the LaDolce Vita Cafe at the high school. An avid dancer, he was a contestant in several dance competitions in the area. Mike enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Greece with his parents and family. He was also a fan of old movies and was at ease dealing with young people as well as carrying on meaningful conversations with the older generation.

In addition to his mother, Patricia, of East Longmeadow, he is survived by his brothers, Nicholas Vamvilis, and his wife, Kathleen, and John Vamvilis, all of Somers; his nieces and nephews, Melissa, Nicole, Peter (Taki), Peter, Justin, and Jonathan; his sister-in-law, Jennifer Vamvilis of Ellington; his aunts, Thea Politimi Vamvilis of Florida, Thea Tasia of Sparta, Greece, and Carole Cole of Enfield; his uncles, Albert Cole, and his wife, Linda, and Alan Cole, all of Dayton, Maine; and many cousins. Besides his father, Peter, who died Nov. 30, 2008, Michael was predeceased by his Uncle Mike Vamvilis.

Family and friends may gather at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers, on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. for a procession to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 400 Prospect St., East Longmeadow, Mass., where services will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Somers Center Cemetery.

Michael's family will receive relatives and friends at the Somers Funeral home on Friday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held on Friday at 6 p.m.

Mike's family has suggested that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of memorial donations to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 400 Prospect St., East Longmeadow, MA, 01028; or the Springfield Rescue Mission, 19 Bliss St., Springfield, MA, 01105.
