Michael W. "Mike" Dzen, Sr., 82, of East Windsor formerly of South Windsor, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Hartford on June 10, 1936, son of the late Steven and Mary (Tyrchuk) Dzen. Mike was a graduate of Ellsworth High School Class of 1954. He founded Dzen Roofing Company in 1975, retiring last year at the age of 81. He was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the Connecticut Roofing Contractors Association. Mike enjoyed growing and caring for Red Hill Tree Farm, selling numerous Christmas trees each year. He enjoyed polka music, antique cars, traveling, especially to the Vermont cabin. and flea markets.

He is survived by his significant other of 35 years, Susan Burns; three children, Michael W. Dzen Jr., and his wife, Kathy of East Windsor, Deborah Spieker and her husband, Larry of South Windsor, and Douglas Dzen of Enfield; three grandchildren, Gary Dzen and his wife, Melissa, Lindsey and Jared Spieker; two great-grandsons, Lucas and Matthew Dzen; a sister, Marilyn Dzen of Ellington; his devoted caregiver, Krystyna, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Ellis) Dzen; and two brothers, John and Donald Dzen.

Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours on Monday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery.
