Paul Joseph Carley, 77, of Rockville, beloved husband of 24 years to Barbara (Helmns) Carley, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.

He was born June 6, 1936, in West Warwick, R.I., son of the late John and Olivine (Cardin) Carley. As he wrote 60 years ago in his high school yearbook, ambition "undecided," his wit and curiosity led him from the Air Force to a foundry worker to a union machinist to every odd job in automotive that no one wanted but had to be done. He tended bar at the Rockville Tavern for 41 years. He loved his family gatherings, gardening, reading, tinkering, and the beach.

Besides his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his children, Wendy M. Carley of Tolland, John A. Carley of Manchester, Douglas P. Carley of Rockville, Lisa B. Marholin, and her husband, Jeffrey, of Ellington, Carrie J. Lembo, and her husband, Brian, of Florida, and Edward F. Chmielecki, and his wife, Jessica, of South Windsor. He also leaves his grandchildren, Samantha, Savannah, Douglas, Carley, Tracy, Max, Alison, Shauna, Katherine, and Tyler; his great-grandson, Mason; as well as his sister, Anne M. Cournoyer of West Warwick, R.I. In addition to his family he also leaves his best friend, Ray; and brothers-in-law, Barry and Steven; and his loving companions, Roscoe and Jake.

Relatives and friends may join the family on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT 06066. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Military honors will be rendered directly following the memorial service. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E. Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.
