Phyllis (Nute) Kitchin, 93, of South Windsor, beloved wife of over 64 years to Donald W. Kitchin Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at her home.

Born in Wakefield, Mass., the elder daughter of the late Forrest and Ethel (Jones) Nute, she grew up in the Boston area, married in the Berkshires, and lived in Kimberton, Pa., before moving to South Windsor 50 years ago. She was a graduate of the former Chandler Secretarial School in Boston and worked for a time at John Hancock and later the Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuary. She enjoyed photography and was an avid bird watcher. Phyllis was a life member of the National Audubon Society and a member of the Hartford Audubon Society. She caringly selected thoughtful gifts for her grandchildren through the years and helped provide for their college education.
In addition to her loving husband, Phyllis is survived by two children, David Kitchin, and his wife, Katie, of Laurel, Md., and Gail Bruce, and her husband, Bill, of North Sutton, N.H.; and two grandchildren, Anna and Schuyler Kitchin. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Monter.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at a time and date to be announced. Burial will be private. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home in South Windsor is caring for the arrangements.
