Robert D. Bottomley Jr., 85, of Manchester, loving husband for 54 years of Christine M. (Sedlaczek) Bottomley, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at his home after a long illness.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky Sept. 12, 1932, son of the late Robert D. and Ellen (White) Bottomley. He was raised in Kentucky, graduated from The Citadel, and served in the U.S. Army during the mid-1950s. Bob and Christine came to Manchester in 1974, and prior to retiring he was a supervisor for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for over 25 years. He was a B.S.A. Eagle Scout, a member of the North United Methodist Church in Manchester, and was a model train enthusiast.

With his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter, Scott W. Bottomley and his wife, Gwen, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Barbara E. Turley and her husband, Gene, of Manchester; and six grandchildren, Alexander, Mitchell, and Nicholas Bottomley, and Elizabeth, Sarah, and Katherine Turley. He is also survived by his cousin, Jane Lange and her husband, Frank, of Sarasota, Florida.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery in Manchester. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
