He was born to Ivan and Rose King of Rockville Oct. 16, 1925, and educated at St. Bernard's School. By 1944, he had completed his training in cabinetry and carpentry at Cheney Tech in Manchester and subsequently served in the U.S. Army Air Corps until the end of the war. From 1949 to 1987, he was employed by the First National Stores construction department, working all over New England. He was a faithful communicant of St. Bernard Church. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the pleasures of field and stream (and ocean), loves he was able to pursue well into his 8th decade. His love, example, and guidance will be sorely missed by his family.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose, the mother of his four sons. They remained happily married until her death in 1988.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Chappell) King; his four sons, Robert James King of Hebron, Donald Edward King and his wife, Mary, and David Alan King and his wife, Cathy, all of Stowe, Vermont, and Richard John King and his wife, Teal, of Lebanon; his brother, Francis King of Necedah, Wisconsin; his sister, Elaine King of Wilbraham, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Michael King of Burlington, Vermont, Sam King of Somerville, Massachusetts, Max King of Boston, Jeff King of Portland, Oregon, Krista King of Saratoga, New York, and Alex King of Enfield; and one great-grandson, Nello.
