Roger Franklin Billings, 86, of Vernon, loving husband of the late Sandra "Sandy" (Fiske) Billings, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at Vernon Manor.

Born in Manchester, Sept. 14, 1932, Roger was a son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Rogers) Billings. Roger was a graduate of Rutgers University and a proud U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Roger was a banker for many years at Bank of Boston and other area banks. A true gentleman and a very kind outdoorsmen, Roger took the earliest opportunity to teach his grandchildren how to ski and share in his passion for the winter season and snow activities. He also loved golf, bowling, and bluegrass music. In addition, Roger was a longtime active member of the East Hartford Lions Club.

Roger is survived by his four cherished daughters, Donna Minor and her husband, Paul, of Eastford, Lynn Morris and her husband, Charles, of East Windsor, Sue Downs of Vernon, and Pamela Clark and her husband, James, of Brownsville, Maine. He also leaves his eight special grandchildren; seven adored great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his beloved wife and parents, Roger was predeceased by his brother, Willard Billings.

Funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the D'Esopo–East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford with Pastor Timothy Howard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hillstown Road Cemetery (Veteran's Field), Manchester.

Roger's family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, Jan. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
