Shirley L. (Hayden) Abel, 74, of Manchester, died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 27, 1933, in Manchester, daughter of the late Robert E. and Anna (Hlobik) Hayden and had been a lifelong resident of Manchester. Shirley enjoyed gardening and loved being with her pets, Snoopy, Stretch, and Sprout.
Mrs. Abel is survived by two daughters, her youngest daughter and best friend Gail Abel of Manchester and Debbie Halloway of Arcadia, Fla.; two grandchildren, Michelle Sullivan and T.J. Sullivan also of Arcadia, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Aaron, and Taylor; her brother-in-law, Albert Garrison, of Hebron; and his three sons, Michael, Richard, and Ronald. Shirley was predeceased by her sister, Ann Mary Garrison, and her life partner, Richard Stewart.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
