Stuart G. Benson, 94, of Somers, husband of Joyce (Judson) Benson, passed away Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at Evergreen Health Care Center.

Stu was born and raised in Springfield where he attended Tech High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from American International College. They were active members of the Connecticut Valley Mineral Club, and owned a business called Stone Age. Stu enjoyed cutting and polishing stones and doing some silversmithing. He also spoke to school groups and Scouts, and got many young people interested in minerals.

In addition to his wife Joyce, Stuart is survived by his children, Carol and Bill; and his grandchildren, Mathew and Andrew.
