Susan Theresa (Garre) Packer, formerly of East Hartland, passed away peacefully at her home in Dunnellon, Fla., on Saturday, July 7, 2013.

Born Dec. 3, 1937, in St. Eugene's township, Quebec, Canada, to Arthur and Cora (Lanoie) Garre, she immigrated to Hartford in 1947. Susan then attended Central Connecticut State University, where she obtained a Master's of Business Administration degree. She was employed with many state agencies, including Division of Special Revenue, Department of Public Health, and Department of Correction, where she retired as a fiscal manager in 1998. Susan was heavily involved in her community as well as her parish, St. Therese in Granby. She was a world traveler having visited many countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa as well as an accomplished painter. Susan also enjoyed walking her beloved dog Bijou, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She served as an inspiration to her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by two sons, Warren Packer and wife, Nuala, of Manchester and Glenn Packer of Largo, Fla.; three grandchildren, Shannon, Wade, and Lauren Packer of Manchester; one sister, Gisele Barrett of Ocala, Fla.; and four brothers, Gilles Garre and wife, Debbie, of Guilford, Rene Garre of Trois-Pistole, Quebec, Bob Garre and wife, Rita of Wethersfield, and Marcel Garre of Bethany; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Packer; her sister Lucille Garre; and two brothers Lucien and Camille Garre.

A memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield on Aug. 3, 2013, at noon. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society 701 Russell Road Newington, CT 06111; or donor's choice. Fero Funeral Home in Beverly Hills, Fla., has care of the arrangements.
