Taras "Ted" Macewko, 65, of Coventry, beloved husband of 33 years to Jozefa (Owczarz) Macewko, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born Oct. 24, 1947, in Delmenhorst, Germany, son of the late Wasyl and Kataryna (Wozna) Macewko. He served in the Vietnam War from 1967-1969, where he was exposed to Agent Orange, which was the direct cause of his ischemic heart disease, which was the cause of his death. He earned the Bronze Star and the Air Medal. He owned his own business, JNT Heating and Cooling, for many years and also worked for many Hartford-area HVAC companies until he fell ill. He enjoyed tennis, rock climbing, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and baking, and he was known for baking the best coffee cakes. He was a staple in the community, always giving a helping hand whenever he was needed, and was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Coventry. Ted had a kind heart and big smile; he will be missed.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter Natalie (Macewko) Cohen and her husband, Joseph, of Ellington; his sister Lesha Colthart and her husband Thomas IV, of Mont Vernon, N.H.; his niece Christina (Colthart) Kelly and her husband, Brett, of Nashua, N.H.; nephew Thomas Colthart V and his, wife Emily, of Pinehurst, N.C.; his sister-in-law, Stefania Pawloska and her husband, Kzaimierz Pawlowska; his grandchild Julia Marie Cohen; and many, many nieces and nephews.
