Theodore "Ted" F. Cowan, age 76, of Somers, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Rockville General Hospital.

Born in Springfield on Oct. 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Theodore and Rita (Boucher) Cowan. Ted proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force and was later employed with Windsor Manufacturing as a tool and die maker for the majority of his career. He was a lifelong resident of Somers and on Aug. 5, 1961, he was wed to his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Dorothy Dubiel. Ted belonged to Somers Congregational Church as well as the Somers Senior Center. He also once served as the assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 387 in Somers, the president of the Good Sam Club, and was a volunteer firefighter in his younger years. Ted was a very family oriented man and he enjoyed traveling and camping with his children.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dorothy Cowan; his children, Mark Cowan of Boise, Idaho, and Christine White, and her husband, Eric, of Mableton, Ga.; his brother, James Cowan, and his wife, Marie, of Somers; his two nephews; and many loving friends.
A funeral service for Ted will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St. Burial with military honors will follow in Somers Center Cemetery.
Ted's family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, April 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
