Theresa K. "Terri" (Kalita) Whitney, 74, a resident of Somers since 1964, and formerly of Enfield and Springfield, died late Sunday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2012, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford

She was born and educated in Springfield, a daughter of Katherine (Szaban) Kalita of East Springfield, and the late John Kalita. Terri was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School as well as earning her teaching degree from the former Westfield State Teachers College. She was employed with the town of Enfield school department for 33 years as a third grade teacher at the Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School, from which she retired in 1996. She, along with her late husband, Garwood, loved traveling to Europe, Florida, and Maine. She was an avid reader, a seasoned shopper, and a woman who loved keeping up with all of the latest fashion trends. Her greatest joy was the time and energy she spent taking exceptional care of her family, home, and pets. Terri was the beloved wife of the late Garwood I. Whitney, who died on Jan. 16, 2011.
Besides her mother, Terri leaves two loving children, Wendy W. Heintz, and her husband, Everett, of Stafford, and Wallace A. Whitney, and his wife, Ann-Marie, of Norfolk, Mass.; her brother, John P. Kalita, and his wife, Susan, of Chicopee; three grandchildren and two nephews.
All services are private and arrangements are by the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.
