Thia (White) Gilluly, 71, formerly of Vernon, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at the Mary Wade Home.

She was born May 11, 1947, and married Jon Gilluly in 1967 and they settled in Vernon in the mid-1970s, married for 48 years until his death in 2015. She was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed being home to raise her family when her children were younger. She was a cheerleading coach for Vernon Midget Football in the early 1980s. When they were older, she acted as a chaperone for many high school trips for Rockville High School choir and band. She and her husband owned and operated "The Wooden Chest," a handcrafted furniture store in Ellington, but in the last 20-plus years of her working life, she drove school buses and vans for the Vernon school district, transporting school children, which she absolutely loved. She was very creative and artistic and enjoyed painting and flower arranging, as well as interior decorating. Her love of friends and family, music and dancing, and her infectious laughter will forever be missed.

She leaves her daughter, Heather Gilluly and son-in-law, Gene Stabile Jr., of Northford; her son, Christopher Gilluly, his wife, Nancy (Corrigan), and grandsons, Ryan and Shane Gilluly of Stafford Springs; her sister, Pamela White of Terryville; as well as many extended family.
