Col. Wilfred "Bill" G. Mitchell, retired U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, 83, of Montauk, N.Y., and formally of Ellington, beloved husband of Iris R. Mitchell, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at his home in Montauk.

Bill was born on May 17, 1930, in Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Wilfred C. and Margaret E. Mitchell. He was employed by Pan American World Airways and United Airlines as a pilot for over 35 years. A Korean War veteran, Bill also spent an exemplary 32 years as a Marine Corps aviator. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his beloved wife, Iris, of 49 years, Bill will be dearly missed by his daughters, Lynn, Darcy, Bonnie, and Carol; and son, James; grandchildren, RJ, Carly, Jake, Austin, and Quintin.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 1400 (2 p.m.) at the Montauk Community Church, 850 Montauk Highway, Montauk, NY 11954. Burial to immediately follow in the Montauk Fort Hill Cemetery with military honors.
