Jean Elizabeth Crawford "Betty" passed away Jan. 21, 2014, at Manors at Hobe Sound.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Hartford on Dec. 29, 1924, and at an early age moved to Manchester, where she spent most of her life before moving to Columbia. She attended Manchester schools, graduating from Manchester High, Class of 1943, then went on to work at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford. Then after 40 years of service, Betty retired in 1981 as senior employment representative. She loved music and enjoyed playing piano and organ, also doing handwork and traveling. Betty delighted in taking friends for a ride in her motor boat "Blue Bonnet" around Columbia Lake. She was a very kind, caring, and compassionate person.
She leaves her two cherished friends with whom she made her home, Gladys Hewitt and Mary Mayer. They were also her caregivers for 20 years. Betty also leaves cousins, Eileen (Neil) Smith, Evelyn (Tom) Lockrin, David (Liz) Knight, and Paul (Margaret) Knight; in Scotland, the Preston and Feeney families; and goddaughter, Rebecca White of Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, Adam and Rebecca Russell Crawford; and grandmother, Elisa Mack. She also was predeceased by Elizabeth Mayer with whom she made her home for 28 years and always referred to Betty as my "adopted daughter"; and Margaret and John Hewitt and her extended Hewitt and Mayer families.
Betty was a member of the South United Methodist Church for 76 years, and also was a member of the Columbia Beckish Senior Center.
Donations in Betty's honor may be made to South United Methodist Church, 1226 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040.
