The Guest Book is expired.
Marie started her courageous journey in life on June 15, 1933, in Auboué, France. Raised in war torn France, and having lost her parents during World War II, she came to the United States at age 16 leaving behind an older sister. She was brought here by another sister, Celestine, who had met and married Hartford native Salvatore Fulco while he fought during the war in the village of Auboué. After arriving in Hartford, Marie learned to speak English, earned a high school equivalency degree, became a United States citizen, and went to work for the Hartford Insurance Co. In 1958, she married the love of her life, Dominic Fulco. Marie and Dominic settled in East Hartford where they raised three sons. She was active in local politics. She also volunteered her time to East Catholic High School Parents Association and Sports Boosters while her sons attended high school there. She returned to the workplace in the late 1970s and worked for Union Carbide and later for the United States Coast Guard Academy Exchange Store, when she and her family relocated to Gales Ferry for several years before returning to East Hartford, at which time she worked for Filene's. During the last 20 years of her life Marie demonstrated her courage and grace as she battled many illnesses, including breast cancer.
Marie is survived by Dominic, her loving and devoted husband of 55 years; her son, Dominic III, and his wife, Ann, of Groton; her son, Mark, and his wife, Nella, of Rocky Hill; her son, Brian, and his fiancée, Thuy, of West Hartford; and grandchildren who brought her much joy, Nicholas, Gabrielle, Eva, Alexander, and Natalie. Her sister Wilhelma predeceased her. She is survived by sister, Celestine, her husband, Salvatore, and their children, Bob, Mike, John, and Anita who were very special to her.
The Fulco family expresses sincere gratitude to the health care professionals at Saint Mary Home in West Hartford who lovingly, compassionately, and skillfully cared for Marie during rehabilitation periods and over the last five months of her life.
