William E. "Bill" Kuehnel, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Martin) Kuehnel, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.

Born in Hartford on May 7, 1933, son of the late William E. and Alice (Kose) Kuehnel, Bill attended Hartford schools, graduating from Buckley High School, and was a proud University of Connecticut graduate. A resident of East Hartford before moving to South Windsor, Bill was a regional sales manager for several national companies representing the New England region for most of his career before retiring from the Department of Labor. Bill was a founding charter member of the East Hartford Elks Lodge. An avid sports fan, Bill was a member of the UConn men's baseball team and ardently supported all UConn teams as well as the New York Giants and New York Yankees. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bill will be remembered as a caring person with a warm sense of humor and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, Betty, he is survived by his five children, William Kuehnel, Beth Vasil, and her husband, Mark, Eileen Keane, Katie Morse, and her husband, Kevin, all of South Windsor, and Meg Yetishefsky of Hebron; a brother, Robert Kuehnel, and his wife, Judith, of East Windsor; a brother-in-law, Joseph Martin, and his wife, Cecilia, of North Branford; a sister-in-law, Mary Whaples of East Hartford; eight grandchildren, Kelsey, Kevin, Connor, Caroline, and Christopher Morse, Emily and Nicky Yetishefsky, and Mara Vasil; along with many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Alfred Kuehnel; brother-in-law, Bill Whaples; and son-in-law, Nick Yetishefsky.
His family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.
Family and friends may gather Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury.
