Our dear mom, Evelyn Crane, 93, of Vernon, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 16, 1920, in East Providence, R.I., to the late John T. and Elizabeth (Fenlon) Conley. Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Crane, enjoying 51 years of marriage. They moved to Vernon in 1956 where they raised their four children. Evelyn retired in 1981 as secretary of Vernon Elementary School, where she treasured her time working with the teachers, staff, and especially the children. Evelyn and Tom spent their retirement traveling and cherished time with family and friends. She loved playing the role of the consummate hostess and doting on her family. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Vernon.
Evelyn leaves to mourn her passing her children, Mary and Jim Boyer of Manchester, Tom and Kim Crane of Birmingham, and John and Claire Crane of Vernon. She also leaves her grandchildren James, Eric, Keith, Chris, Jeff, Ryan, Megan, Kyley, Kevin, Patrick, Collin; and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy.
Friends may join the family at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, on Sunday, Feb. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m..
A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb., 24, at Sacred Heart Church, 550 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon. A private burial will follow.
