Eleanor Kourouvacilis, 79, of Springfield, beloved wife of Anthanacious "Arthur" Kourouvacilis for 59 years, entered into eternal peace Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Redstone Rehabilitation in East Longmeadow, Mass.

One of nine children, Eleanor was born in Acushnet, Mass., to the late Adelard and the late Mary (Cummings) Martin. She was raised in Point Judith, R.I., and Fairhaven, Mass. She had lived in Springfield since 1960 where she and her husband raised their family. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and spending time with her family, who were her pride and joy. She will be remembered for being very caring and giving to others. Besides her husband "Atha," as she referred so dearly, she is survived by her seven children, Katie Skrok, and her husband, Steven, of Springfield, Venus Kourouvacilis of Springfield, and her companion, Chistopher Neville, Diane Kourouvacilis of Springfield, Mary D'Angelo, and her husband, Aurelio, of Somers, Peter Kourouvacilis, and his wife, Sandra, of Weston, Fla., Georgia Nadler, and her husband, Robert, of Somers, and John Stephen Kourouvacilis of Springfield; two brothers, Charlie Martin, and his wife, Betty, of California, and Richard Martin, and his wife, Kathy, of Idaho; three sisters, Donna Hernandez, and her husband, Ricardo, of California, Doris Hummel, and her husband, Paul, of Colorado, and Carol Arbuckle, and her husband, Bob, of Florida; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Doris Clair Martin; three sisters, Rosemary Barksdale, Hazel Lame, and Joanie Medeiros.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 11:30 a.m. at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers, followed by committal at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, Mass.

One hour of visitation will be held prior to the service Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
